The Metering Point Registration System (MPRS) is currently the core solution which manages MPAN registration/change-of-supplier in the deregulated electricity market in Great Britain.
MPRS is the key software component used by distribution businesses to deliver their licence obligation of providing a Supplier Meter Registrations Service and Electricity Retail Data Service.
MPRS is constructed in accordance with both the Balancing and Settlement Code and the Retail Energy Code and conforms to the recent major industry changes as part of Ofgem’s Smart Metering, Faster Switching and Market-wide Half Hourly Settlement Programmes. MPRS is used by all Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and all Independent Distributor Network Operators (IDNOs).
Nearing 30 years of operation, MPRS has continued to evolve functionally and technically to keep up with industry and user defined changes. Today MPRS represents a functionally rich application that is at the heart of the UK’s deregulated electricity market. It supports interaction between key industry market participants, such as suppliers and network operators, by providing the following functions:
- Provides Suppliers and their Agents with the Metering System Registration Data related to their registered (Suppliers) or appointed (Agents) Metering Systems respectively
- Facilitates the MHHS Agent Appointment Process
- Aligns Data between Import Export Associations and MPAN Relationships
- Applies and Maintains Market Segment based on Licensed Distribution System Operator (LDSO), Supplier and Agent Parameters
- Receives and processes – Supplier data, LDSO data, Metering Service data, Data Service Data and Meter Technical Details data
- Facilitates responses to industry market participant enquiries
- Includes a comprehensive suite of mandated industry and user reports
- A full audit trail of all transactions
- Near Realtime Communication with the Data Integration Platform (DIP).
MPRS provides vital access control data to the central Data Communications Company (DCC) in order to control supplier access to Smart meter data.
